Brad Fogal: From NCAA Goalie to PWHL, OHL and Team Canada Coach (Ep. 366)

    30.08.2026 | 1 Std. 52 Min.
Episode 366 of the InGoal Radio Podcast, presented by The Hockey Shop Source for Sports, features an information-packed interview with PWHL, OHL, and Hockey Canada goalie coach Brad Fogal.
In the feature interview, presented by NHL Sense Arena, Fogal, who also runs the Goalie Training Institute in Ontario, walks us through his unique path to NCAA and minor pro hockey before becoming a full-time coach, and how it informs his work now on the other side of the whistle. We caught up with Fogal while he was working with Team Canada's under-18 women's team, but he also works with PWHL Toronto and has been in the OHL with Owen Sound, and he shared advice on the importance of building a foundation -- and what that looks like at different ages -- consistent terminology, the biomechanics of good movement, adding game realism and decision-making to drills, working with multiple goalies and so much more.
In the Parent Playbook, presented by Stop It Goaltending U the App, Hutch welcomes you to the Goalie (Parent) Union with his top-10 tips (actually top-11, with a bonus) for new goalie parents going into their first season.
We also review the latest Pro Reads, presented by Vizual Edge, featuring Eric Comrie with a great breakdown of a late-game 6-on-5 and how to manage movement patterns and read releases even when you get a little behind a play, with a hat tip to Connor Hellebuyck for some of the advice he shares.
And in our weekly gear segment we go to The Hockey Shop Source for Sports for a look at the Vaughn Ion Pro pads and gloves, which, counter to the name, is actually a second price-point line that still comes with plenty of top-end features.

Johnny Hicks: From the Bench to NCAA Champion and Frozen Four MVP (Ep. 365)

    22.08.2026 | 1 Std. 33 Min.
Episode 365 of the InGoal Radio Podcast, presented by The Hockey Shop Source for Sports, features a great interview with NCAA champion and Frozen Four MVP Johnny Hicks.
In the feature interview, presented by NHL Sense Arena, Hicks walks us through the preparation and process that allowed him to mostly sit for half a season, then come off the bench and go 16-0-1 and set an NCAA record with a .957 save percentage before backstopping the University of Denver to a National Championship with a .955 save percentage in the playoffs. It's a great story made all the more remarkable by his unique path, from a winless first season in the BCHL, to a powerhouse team in the AJHL — and the unique lessons from both stops — then the WHL for one year before going to school. Add in an invite to the Edmonton Oilers development camp this summer for the undrafted Hicks and it really is a can't miss interview.
In the Parent Playbook, presented by Stop it Goaltending U the App, Hutch talks about preparing for the fast approaching season and why chasing late extra reps before tryouts and training camps can often do more harm than good, both between the pipes and between the ears.
We also review the latest Pro Reads, presented by Vizual Edge, featuring Dustin Wolf with a quick but important breakdown on when to use RVH and when to hold your feet on passes from below the goal line, something that's been a theme in a lot of recent Pro Reads.
And in our weekly gear segment we go to The Hockey Shop Source for Sports for a look at the new Bauer Supreme F50 Pro, a second-price point stick loaded with top-level options, including one never before offered by Bauer at anything other than the highest prices.

Strauss Mann: The US Olympian Who Rediscovered His Passion for the Game in Europe (Ep. 364)

    14.08.2026 | 1 Std. 35 Min.
Episode 364 of the InGoal Radio Podcast, presented by The Hockey Shop Source for Sports, features a can't-miss interview with Swedish pro and former U.S. Olympian Strauss Mann.
In the feature interview, presented by NHL Sense Arena, Mann, a former University of Michigan standout, takes us through the ups and downs of his first four years of pro hockey since the Olympics. From struggling with situations beyond his control that limited opportunities in North America, to rediscovering his passion for the game in Europe and setting top Swedish League shutout records and winning a championship last season, the lessons Mann shares from his journey really are can't-miss for goalies, coaches and parents. They include a strong focus on meditation, and advice on how to make it a valuable tool, which in part led to a new venture off the ice called Haus (buildyourhaus.com) that offers mentorship and coaching circles as well as 1-on-1 work, not just for goalies but for their parents too, as well as a team-focused five-part speaker series this season of virtual and asynchronous workshops from world-class coaches in performance and personal development.
In the Parent Playbook, presented by Stop it Goaltending U the App, Hutch shares key lessons and takeaways from the parent perspective from InGoal's trip to the 2026 USA Hockey Goaltending Symposium in Boston.
We also review the latest Pro Reads, presented by Vizual Edge, featuring Eric Comrie breaking down the keys to knowing when to attack and when to sit back on an open look off the rush.
And in our weekly gear segment we go to The Hockey Shop Source for Sports for a look at the new Warrior Alpha Surge S50, a lower price point version of the all new Surge pad with lots of the same features and a slightly softer flex profile.

Robbie Beydoun: He Walked Away From Pro Hockey — Now He Trains NHL Goalies' Eyes (Ep. 363)

    03.08.2026 | 1 Std. 46 Min.
Episode 363 of the InGoal Radio Podcast, presented by The Hockey Shop Source for Sports, features the fascinating journey of former NCAA goalie turned vision specialist and sometimes NHL practice goalie, Robbie Beydoun.
In the feature interview, presented by NHL Sense Arena, Beydoun shares stories from a unique path to college hockey that included graduating in 3 years from Michigan Tech, transferring (long before there was a portal) to Wisconsin to play his final year on a team with Cole Caufield and Dylan Holloway, then turning pro, winning in the AHL and going 7-3 in the ECHL with a save percentage of .920 or better, then walking away — at least from playing professionally. Along the way, Beydoun, who still puts on the pads to practice with his hometown Minnesota Wild, had a breakthrough using Vizual Edge, and now he helps goalies see pucks better in his work with the company, a journey that includes working with Jordan Binnington, Jeremy Swayman, Joseph Woll and more. It's a great story that comes with an added bonus: 50% off the first 3 months to try Vizual Edge as a new user in August using the code IGFALL50.
In the Parent Playbook, presented by Stop it Goaltending U the App, we cover 7 tips for helping your goaltender improve their puck handling. In that segment we reference an article at InGoalMag.com on improving your shooting strength from Maria Mountain.
We also review the latest Pro Reads, presented by Vizual Edge, featuring Eric Comrie with a smart breakdown on managing depth on the penalty kill and the importance of not overcommitting positionally to non-shooting threats, even NHL All-Stars with 358 career goals.
And in our weekly gear segment we go to The Hockey Shop Source for Sports for a look at the new CCM Tacks goal skates, with a forward pitch more comparable to Bauer and lots of great new features that have made them a hit with our testers and PWHL star Ann-Renee Desbiens.

Montreal Canadiens Prospect Emmett Croteau (Ep. 362)

    24.07.2026 | 1 Std. 9 Min.
Episode 362 of the InGoal Radio Podcast, presented by The Hockey Shop Source for Sports, features Montreal Canadiens draft pick and prospect Emmett Croteau.
In the feature interview, presented by NHL Sense Arena, Croteau shares lessons learned along his path from Bonnyville, Alberta to the USHL to playing NCAA hockey at Dartmouth College and being drafted by the Montreal Canadiens. There are several great examples of a growth mindset Croteau developed from going to a wide variety of camps as a kid that have fuelled his rise as an NHL prospect, as well as valuable insights into the voices and tips that stuck with him.
In the Parent Playbook, presented by Stop it Goaltending U the App, Hutch revisits his week at Stop It Goaltending's GCG Prospects camp and reviews two important concepts: the value in working with multiple coaches who have different perspectives and styles, and the fact that all goalie parents — right up to the NHL — are part of their own special union. You are not alone.
We also review the latest Pro Reads, presented by Vizual Edge, featuring Flames star Dustin Wolf with a great breakdown of when — and why — to cheat on a shooter with pass options.
In our weekly gear segment we go to The Hockey Shop Source for Sports for a look at the True 7X6 line, a lower price point option with a softer flex and feel as well as pro features.
