On Halloween night in 1974, eight-year-old Timothy O’Bryan died after eating cyanide-contaminated candy following a trick-or-treat outing near Pasadena, Texas.

His father, Ronald Clark O’Bryan, said an unusually large Pixy Stix had come from a neighborhood home where no one answered the door. But police faced two urgent questions: where had the poison come from, and whether four other children who received similar candy were still in danger.

As investigators recovered altered Pixy Stix and retraced the Halloween route, the account centered on the Donerail house began to collapse. The inquiry moved instead through insurance records, mounting debts, cyanide inquiries, and the evidence presented at a capital murder trial.

This episode follows the investigation that turned a Halloween poisoning into a family murder case—and examines why the crime became so closely associated with America’s enduring fear of poisoned candy from strangers.

YES OR NO: Did this case unfairly strengthen fear of poisoned Halloween candy from strangers?????

On August 21, 1955, adults and children drove from a farmhouse near Kelly, Kentucky, to the Hopkinsville police station. They reported small figures outside the house and said members of the household had fired shots.

Police, deputies, state troopers, and military police went back with them. Their search produced no identified creature, landing mark, tracks, or recovered object. But a damaged window screen remained.

This episode follows that overnight call through the newspaper story that made it famous, the later Air Force correspondence that complicated claims of an official investigation, and the Hollywood development history behind Steven Spielberg’s unmade Night Skies.

The Kelly-Hopkinsville encounter has a documented police response and a lasting cultural legacy. What it does not have is surviving evidence that identifies the figures—or establishes that the case directly inspired Gremlins.

YES OR NO: What do you think best explains the Kelly-Hopkinsville encounter: an unidentified natural event, a misunderstanding that escalated, or something else?????????

In 1997, an anonymous caller calling himself Victor appeared on Art Bell’s Coast to Coast AM and claimed a silent video showed a nonhuman being being questioned at a secret facility connected to Area 51.

The claim moved through disputed television coverage, a commercial VHS documentary, and late-night radio. Its setting gave it power: Groom Lake was a real secret test site for the U-2 and A-12 programs.

But what does the surviving record actually establish? This episode follows the tape’s public path, Victor’s altered-voice account, the dispute over how the footage was presented, and the evidence still missing from the story.

The record confirms that the tape circulated and that Victor made his claims publicly. It does not establish where the footage came from, what it depicts, or that a nonhuman interrogation occurred.

In late 1948, vivid green lights were repeatedly reported near Los Alamos, Sandia Base, and other sensitive locations in New Mexico. Air Force investigators collected the reports. A meteoriticist challenged an easy meteor explanation. Scientists and security officials met behind restricted doors at Los Alamos.

Then the Air Force tried to settle the question with cameras, triangulation, and systematic observation. Project TWINKLE never captured the green fireballs it was built to measure.

This episode follows the documented investigation from the first reports through TWINKLE’s final report, and separates genuine official concern and classified handling from later claims that the fireballs were known craft or concealed extraterrestrial evidence.
