In the early morning hours of Sat August 20th, 2016, Twenty-seven-year-old Derrick Dearman, entered the home where his twenty-four-year-old estranged girlfriend, Laneta Lester, was staying. Laneta had fled from Derrick because he was abusive. Her family turned Derrick away from the home when he showed up earlier.
