Locked On Heat - Daily Podcast On The Miami Heat

Giannis Antetokounmpo is making the Miami Heat offense look RIDICULOUSLY easy. After scoring 70 first-half points against Toronto, Miami followed it up with 73 against the New Orleans Pelicans — including 18 points in just 18 minutes from Giannis. Wes Goldberg and David Ramil react to another explosive preseason performance and explain why Giannis completely changes how Miami generates offense. Forget needing someone to get hot. The Heat now have a superstar who can create easy baskets whenever he wants.
Then, Erik Spoelstra experimented with some fascinating lineups, including Giannis surrounded by four shooters and three-big combinations featuring Bam Adebayo, Bobby Portis and Nikola Jovic. Are Miami's spacing concerns officially over? Plus, Klay Thompson hits his first three, Davion Mitchell makes an impression, and Wes delivers a courtside report on the atmosphere surrounding Giannis' arrival in Miami.

Are the Miami Heat being seriously UNDERRATED heading into the NBA season? Despite adding Giannis Antetokounmpo alongside Bam Adebayo, some national analysts are projecting Miami to finish as low as sixth to ninth in the Eastern Conference. Are they overlooking a legitimate contender?
Wes Goldberg and David Ramil open the Locked On Heat mailbag to debate whether the Heat deserve to be considered a top-three team in the East — and why national expectations remain surprisingly low.
But first, Miami has several injury and illness updates ahead of Thursday’s preseason matchup against the New Orleans Pelicans. Andrew Wiggins and Pelle Larsson have been dealing with illnesses, Keshad Johnson is working back from a hamstring strain and Dru Smith remains sidelined with a calf injury. Plus, Erik Spoelstra reveals his plan for the rest of the preseason, including how much Giannis and the regular rotation will play before opening night.

Klay Thompson went scoreless in the Miami Heat’s preseason game against Toronto — and he might have demonstrated exactly why Miami signed him. Giannis Antetokounmpo explained how Klay’s shooting gravity kept defenders attached to him, eliminated help defense and created the kind of spacing Giannis rarely gets to enjoy.
Wes Goldberg and David Ramil break down why Klay’s impact next to Giannis goes far beyond the box score, what else Miami needs from him and why nobody should be worried about a slow preseason start.
Then, the Heat got their first look at some of the players they traded to Milwaukee for Giannis — and it wasn't pretty. Tyler Herro and Jaime Jaquez Jr. combined for 5-of-16 shooting with six turnovers, while Kel’el Ware had his own rough moments. Does the Giannis trade somehow look even better?
Plus, two-time Heat champion Norris Cole is returning to the organization as a Sioux Falls Skyforce assistant coach.

Giannis Antetokounmpo has experienced Heat Culture — and he says it’s VERY real. After his first Miami Heat training camp, Giannis raved about the organization’s intensity, togetherness and accountability, saying the experience gives him “goosebumps” and feels “like being alive again.”
Wes Goldberg and David Ramil react to Giannis fully embracing Heat Culture and explain why the relationship goes both ways. After years of roster turnover and frustration, could Giannis be exactly what Miami needed to reinvigorate its culture?
Then, former Heat guard Tyler Herro offers a very different perspective. Now with Milwaukee, Herro says Bucks coach Taylor Jenkins has created a training camp that’s just as intense — if not more — and admits he pushed for a fresh start.
So is Heat Culture really unique? And can Giannis help usher in a new era of it?

Giannis Antetokounmpo is already changing the Miami Heat offense. In Miami’s first preseason action, Giannis dished out seven assists — including three in the opening five minutes — while repeatedly drawing extra defenders and creating opportunities for his new teammates. Wes Goldberg and David Ramil break down Giannis’ instant impact as a playmaker and why Pat Riley’s comparison to Magic Johnson might not be as crazy as it sounds. Is Giannis’ gravity going to unlock an entirely different kind of Heat offense?
Then, we spotlight Pelle Larsson, Tim Hardaway Jr. and Nikola Jovic and what their performances could mean for Miami’s rotation. Finally, what did we learn about Erik Spoelstra’s new offense? Wes and David examine the Heat’s increased pace, how Giannis changes their identity and the evolving role for Bam Adebayo alongside Miami’s new superstar.
