This week on the Stay Tuned with Preet podcast, Jessica Tarlov, co-host of Fox News’s The Five and Vox Media’s Raging Moderates podcast, joins Preet to discuss her new book, I Disagree: Winning Arguments Without Losing Friends.

Drawing on her experience as the lone liberal on The Five, Tarlov shares best practices for debating people on the opposite side of the political spectrum and why the initial goal shouldn’t be to change their mind. Tarlov also discusses how “data-based storytelling” became her argument strategy and how she determines when it’s best to stop talking and just listen. Finally, they delve into her theory that Trump supporters don’t take politics that seriously and why liberals could benefit from understanding that.

At the end of the episode, Preet answers listener questions about Trump’s promise to send $5,000 checks to all American adults if Republicans keep control of Congress. Plus, what it means when a government agency asks for public comments about a new rule.

Feinberg breaks down the central question in his new edition, whether the United States could deal with a catastrophe so effectively today, as he compares the country’s political climate in 2001 to today’s. Preet and Feinberg then discuss the moral dilemma that comes with deciding what someone’s life is worth and whether there are other tragedies that merit taxpayer funded victim compensation funds, like gun violence. Throughout their conversation, Feinberg shares some of the stories he heard from victims and why the emotional aspect of his job was the hardest part of it. Finally, they talk about their careers and why Feinberg believes planning ahead doesn’t always work.
