John believes the referees got it wrong, so we ask: should there be a higher threshold for VAR intervention?
We then turn to Manchester City’s “ugly” 1-0 win over Coventry. But is Jonathan being too harsh with his assessment that it’s “just like Pep, but slower and far less decisive”?

We start with Tottenham's 2-0 defeat at home to Newcastle, as Spurs find themselves bottom of the Premier League despite spending £300m on new players over the summer. Both Craig and Charlie covered the match and we debate what's going wrong for Roberto de Zerbi.

Next to another side who have had a stuttering start, Liverpool, after their 2-2 draw with Nottingham Forest. How worrying have their first two performances been, why is Florian Wirtz struggling and could Bradley Barcola be the player they need?

Switching sports to cricket, we then discuss England's dominant display against Pakistan with broadcaster Adam Collins, as Dan Lawrence impressed for the home side at Lord's.

Finally, returning to football, we discuss Everton and bring you some breaking news about the proposed sale of teenage midfielder Harrison Armstrong. Finally, we turn to Liverpool, who, following Curtis Jones’ departure, are without a homegrown player in their first team for the first time in 134 years. Miguel explores the importance of clubs staying connected to their communities, and whether there should be a greater emphasis on homegrown talent and giving academy players a pathway into the first team.
