President Trump reportedly berated members of his own party yesterday in a bad-tempered meeting with Senate Republicans on the Iran War. Several Republicans defied Trump to pass a War Powers resolution which - symbolically - orders him to end military action or get their permission first.

But while the endless MAGA schisms are fascinating, they are not the main barrier to peace - and Trump knows it. Israel is bitterly opposed to the US deal with Iran and has made its feelings known.

Successive US presidents stood by Israel throughout the war on Gaza, even as many of its traditional allies expressed shock and alarm at the scale of civilian suffering.

But just as the US met the limits of its power in the war on Iran. Israel is discovering that the limits to its power are met by challenging America’s interests.

Piers Morgan speaks to New York Times columnist Nicholas Kristof, a twice-winner of the Pulitzer Prize, who faced a ferocious outcry for his work last month and Executive Director of the Urban Warfare Institute John Spencer.

A controversial concept has been gaining traction among some of the world's most influential voices.

"Suicidal Empathy" - a term popularised by public figures including Elon Musk, Marc Andreessen and Bill Ackman — is the idea that excessive or misdirected compassion can lead societies to make decisions that ultimately undermine their own interests.

Its advocates argue that issues such as mass migration, crime and cultural integration are too often viewed through an emotional lens rather than a practical one, with potentially disastrous consequences for Western civilisation.

Critics, however, say the theory is little more than a justification for abandoning compassion when it conflicts with a particular political worldview. They argue that empathy is a strength, not a weakness, and warn that the concept risks dehumanising vulnerable people.

So who is right?

Piers Morgan is joined by Professor Gad Saad, the evolutionary psychologist who coined the term and whose new book, Suicidal Empathy, expands on the argument.

Piers is then joined by Canadian physician and author Gabor Mate, who responds to Saad’s criticism of his work.

Just weeks after threatening Iran with devastating consequences, President Trump is preparing to sign a new agreement with Tehran - a dramatic shift that is raising questions across Washington, Jerusalem and the wider Middle East.

The proposed deal would see US and Iranian officials continue negotiations over Tehran's nuclear programme, despite concerns from critics that many of the key issues which sparked the conflict remain unresolved.
