Die Simple Minds hatten 1977 als Punkband begonnen, wurden dann als New Wave Band gehandelt, hatten lange wenig Erfolg und dann lange viel zu viel davon. Letzteres hat ihrer Musik nicht gut getan. Die war zwischen 1979 und 1984 aber wirklich gut, sehr gut sogar: experimentell, manisch, düster mit herrlich assoziativen Texten: Achtziger Jahre Angst statt Popschwulst mit Politkitsch.
