  In the 20th episode of the migration history podcast “Transit”, Michal Frankl talks with Franziska Lamp-Miechowiecki about results from his recently finished ERC-project “Unlikely Refuge. Refugees and Citizens in East-Central Europe in the 20th century” as well as about his previous research on the role of “stateless spaces” and the experience of the “no man’s land” in East-Central European border regions in the late 1930s.  Frankl also discusses his research on post-communist refugee policies in the 1990s as well as his more recent endeavours in the field of citizen-science to create archives by and about migrants and refugees.

  In dieser Episode spricht Philipp Strobl mit dem Politikwissenschaftler und Migrationsexperten Hannes Schammann über Chancen und Herausforderungen der Fluchtmigration nach Europa. Diskutiert werden u.a. die veränderten Dynamiken von Herkunftsregionen und Ankunftszahlen, die politische Instrumentalisierung von Migration in Wahlkämpfen sowie die Uneinigkeit innerhalb der EU in Fragen einer gemeinsamen Flüchtlingspolitik. Schammann gibt Einblicke in die Forschung seiner Migration Policy Research Group an der Universität Hildesheim und geht der Frage nach, inwiefern staatliche und europäische Politik Migration überhaupt steuern kann. Zudem wird reflektiert, welche Lehren Europa aus den Fluchtbewegungen der Vergangenheit – insbesondere aus den Jahren 2015/16 – gezogen hat und welch zentrale Rolle Kommunen im Umgang mit Geflüchteten spielen.
