231. To the Educating Momma (Not just for homeschoolers!)
“ For I know the plans I have for you,” declares the Lord, “plans to prosper you and not to harm you, plans to give you hope and a future.” Jeremiah 29:11. This week I speak to the educating momma heart. Whether your children attend a public school, private school, or are homeschooled, we, parents, are the first educators of our children. The Catechism of the Catholic Church says "Parents have the first responsibility for the education of their children. They bear witness to this responsibility first by creating a home where tenderness, forgiveness, respect, fidelity, and disinterested service are the rule." The world consistently distracts our kingdom-set hearts with the values of our culture. Fear sets in, and we begin to make idols of our children's success. How's their math, their reading, their scores? And though we want our children to be resourceful, articulate, and critical thinkers, we must remember that educating them in virtue and character is the primary goal of our own schools of love!
