    Adoption (Part 1)

    10.07.2026 | 41 Min.
God moved heaven and earth to be our Father. Rather than just forgiving our sins through Jesus Christ, he invites us to sit at the family table with him as his very own sons and daughters.

All too often, we live and act as slaves instead of cherished children, blown about by the emotional highs and lows of our circumstances and defensive about our standing in life. But the truth is that our adoption grants us a wonderful security in Jesus that we can call upon daily.

Let’s look at 1) how God’s adoption of us is far more radical than it seems, and 2) how we can rest secure as sons instead of slaves.

This sermon was preached by Dr. Timothy Keller at Redeemer Presbyterian Church on June 14, 1992. Series: Salvation From the Outside In. Scripture: Ephesians 1:4-8.

Our Ransom, Redeemed by Blood (Part 3)

    06.07.2026 | 42 Min.
Forgiveness isn’t something that can just be given for free; it always has a cost.

When we commit an offense against someone and they forgive us, they pay the price of the time, money, or reputation we took from them. Ephesians tells us our sins against God, too, come with a real cost that only Jesus could pay—and that understanding this can truly transform our lives.

Let’s look at how 1) no sin can be forgiven without someone absorbing the cost, 2) why Jesus’s crucifixion was the necessary answer for us breaking God’s Law, and 3) how our lives can be radically changed by this grace.

This sermon was preached by Dr. Timothy Keller at Redeemer Presbyterian Church on May 31, 1992. Series: Salvation From the Outside In. Scripture: Ephesians 1:3-8.

    Our Ransom (Part 2)

    03.07.2026 | 33 Min.
We often hear it stated that Jesus offers redemption to those who believe in him. But why do we need to be redeemed in this first place—and why is Jesus the only one who could do it?

The truth is that we have all violated God’s Law and need to be saved. Still, many of us are left with more questions. Is what I’ve done really that bad? Why can’t I earn my own redemption? Why couldn’t God simply choose to forgive us without sending Jesus to the cross?

The Bible offers us answers in the true meaning of the word “Redeemer.” Let’s look at how 1) we are in bondage and have a ransom that must be paid, and 2) Jesus Christ had to die to pay it.
