This is Kumu Hula Kehau Chrisman’s response to the question, “why is it that Hawaiian people look different from Mainland people dancing hula?”

There are many different styles of hula. Hula ku’i is just one of the more common styles of hula.

Hawaiians say Happy New Year, but in Ancient Hawai’i the term Makahiki meant something very different.
