Episode No. 782 features artist Terry Winters, and remembers the late artist Ursula von Rydingsvard.
The Menil Collection, Houston is showing "Terry Winters: Vitalized Geometry" through April 4, 2027. The exhibition presents 44 prints and works on paper recently acquired by the museum. It was curated by Sophie Asakura.
Four four decades Winters has joined abstraction to addresses of the natural world. Among the major museums that have presented solo exhibitions of his work are the Museum of Fine Arts, Boston, the Metropolitan Museum of Art, New York, the Museum of Contemporary Art, Los Angeles, and the Fogg Art Museum, Harvard University.
This is Winters' third visit to the program. He was a guest on Episodes No. 16 and No. 338.

Episode No. 781 features artist Clare Rojas and curator Hillary Olcutt.
The Columbus (Ohio) Museum of Art is presenting "Clare Rojas: Returning" a survey of 60 works the Ohio-born Rojas has made mostly over the last decade. It particularly spotlights works Rojas has made that examine the cyclical nature of life. "Rojas" was curated by Katherine Brodbeck and is on view through February 7, 2027.
Rojas' distinct visual language is equally comfortable presenting figurative scenes and minimal abstract compositions that feature symbology and fantasy. Her pictures often engage with fauna and Peruvian mythology. Rojas' work has been included in exhibitions at museums such as SFMOMA, the de Young Museum, San Francisco, The Contemporary Austin, and more. This is her most significant museum solo show to date.

Olcutt is the curator of "Rooted in Place: California Native Art" at the de Young Museum, San Francisco. The presentation, part of the Fine Arts Museums of San Francisco's reimagining of its Arts of Indigenous America galleries, is the first in a series of exhibitions that highlights specific regions of Native California. This first installation looks at art from northwestern California, home to the Karuk, Yurok, Hupa, Tolowa, Tsnungwe, and Wiyot communities. It's on view through June 6, 2027.

Episode No. 780 features curator Edward Town and author Tim Barringer, and curator Leigh Arnold.
The Yale Center for British Art is presenting Town's "John Constable: The Landscape Reimagined" through July 25, 2027. The exhibition examines Constable's open-air paintings, pictures which helped transform European landscape painting, and which had significant impacts on United States painters too. "Constable" features works such as cloud studies, oil sketches, and two of Constable's vaunted six-footers, including YCBA's own Hadleigh Castle, one of the most iconic works of English landscape painting. It is the only major US exhibition of Constable's work on the 250th anniversary of his birth. The exhibition is accompanied by Barringer's Constable, the third installment in YCBA's Collection Series. The book includes a contribution from Nicholas Robbins. Bookshop and Amazon offer it for $35-37.
Arnold is the curator of "Bruce Nauman: Identical" at the Nasher Sculpture Center in Dallas. The exhibition features a group of polyurethane, silicone rubber, and plaster-cast animal forms, alongside a rotating selection of drawings and a 3D video, made from elements that the artist had in his New Mexico studio. It is on view through March 21, 2027.

Episode No. 779 of The Modern Art Notes Podcast is a holiday weekend clips show featuring artist Stacy Kranitz.
This week Terrible Baby Books is publishing Kranitz's Ain't No Grave Gonna Hold My Body Down, a new book that examines the evolving representation of the Appalachian mountaineer, tracing how poverty in the region has been constructed, challenged, and reimagined over time. Work in the book will be exhibited this fall at the Biennale Images Vevey in Vevey, Switzerland, The Contemporary Dayton, in Dayton, Ohio, and at The Gallatin Galleries, New York University. Ain't No Grave is available from Terrible Baby for $70.
Kranitz's work, primarily made in the southern Appalachian Mountains, presents the complexity and instability of a rugged region on which industry has preyed. Her work is in the collection of museums such as the National Gallery of Art, Washington, Harvard Art Museums, and the Museum of Fine Arts, Houston. Her sold-out 2022 book As it Was Give(n) to Me was published by Twin Palms and was shortlisted for a Paris Photo-Aperture First Photobook Award.
This episode was taped in 2023 when Kranitz was included in "A Long Arc: Photography and the American South since 1845" at the High Museum of Art, Atlanta. The exhibition considered the South as a forger of American identity and examines how Southern photographers have contributed to both the advance of their medium, and the US project. It was curated by Gregory J. Harris and Sarah Kennel.

The MCA Chicago is presenting "Atrium Project: Celeste Rapone" in the museum's two-story entrance space through Jun 20, 2027. The presentation was organized by Jamillah James with Korina Hernandez.
Rapone's work centers domesticity, intimacy, and daily life, particularly as experienced by women. She has been included in exhibitions at the Institute of Contemporary Art Boston and the Georgia Museum of Art; her work is in the collection of the Hammer Museum, University of California, Los Angeles, the Los Angeles County Museum of Art, the Speed Art Museum, Louisville, and the Pérez Art Museum Miami (promised).
